I was thinking about doing this course myself. Does anyone have any experience of it? Is it any good, what's the story with Capital Gains Tax etc. and do you think it would stand to someone if they wanted a career in the agri sector?

F*** me that's pricey. My sister was looking at dont it. But she has gone back to college so is not sure how or when she can do it. Might be too expensive for her too.

Thank macra for the current system. They were bitching about the three week course that was once the norm, price has inflated over the last 3 years to its current pricing while it is expensive the one years fee for a full time college course is 2500.

    Level 5 cost Me €500
    Level 6 cost Me €350

Its going on 2 And a half years still not finished hopeing To be done by christmas
My opinion is don't do it until Your told you really have To ,another thing I also noticed was when level 5 was nearly finished We Were told it was being changed again And We may have To do another section To update our cert.
We do 1 day a week with teagasc And I could be at better things earning a crust , 4 day week is nonprofit!

I'm presuming you mean the online version so a post from before:

Did it during late 2010 to early 2012.

As said, we were given the days and it didn't deviate either however also had a few nights but usually given two/three weeks notice which was okayish only I'm working a few hours from home and college was further again. Was okay with work - just started earlier to finish early.

Mine was from September 2010 to February 2012 but there was a long gap at the end and I didn't finish until April due to work travel in February.

The 15 days is a pain but over two years and with some time off built up it is manageable and cest la vie really.

Found the discussion groups useful too and as said once you put in the work you'll be fine especially with the diary.

If you miss a discussion group you'll need to go to another.

It is a similar case to any walk of life really if you are seen to be putting in the effort (exams and diary and projects), the facilitators are very accommodating and will work for you.

It is very expensive for what it is but unfortunately it has to be done...

The Stamp Duty exemption has been extended to 2013, and probably further after the next budget. This means if you're under 35 and transferring a farm, you pay 0% SD on the transfer. Makes the course very worthwhile in that case. Also, future grants and schemes will probably require you to be certified.

My brother will be finished college in 2 years time and will be looking to get the green cert done. Is this online course the best way of doing it and what is the likelihood of them changing the requirements to get a green cert in the meantime?
