    Hi,

    I am hoping to acquire a Samsung Galaxy S3 which is running Jellybean 4.1.2 currently.
    It's from Vodafone (unlocked however) but it has some Vodafone stuff in there by default.

    Is it possible to download the OS without any of the Vodafone stuff and basically reformat the phone and re-install the OS?
    Totally new to this - IOS head just testing out Android.

    Thanks for any advice.

    Thanks Aristotle,

    I presume the UK version is fine to use??

    Base Firmware: I9300XXEMC2 (4.1.2)
    Region: Europe
    Country: United Kingdom
    Carrier: Unbranded
    Build Date: 11 March 2013
    Modem: XXEMC2
    CSC: OXAEMC2

    @Mr Velo
    Rather use the 'BTU' release. It is generic UK unbranded. I have it on my S3 and I get updates via Kies, ususally days before my OH who has a branded phone, without any problem.

    I'm pretty sure the EMC2 one you linked to is BTU, it's the one I have on my phone anyway and it works fine.

    @Mr Velo
    The version you linked to has the CSC 'OXA' which is an 'Open Europe' version and includes several countries (eg: Poland).

    What you need is the UK unbranded version CSC 'BTU'. This is obtainable from this forum: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1646610

    At the end of the day, you could use either, but for speed and frequency of updates, I use the BTU vrsion in my phone

    In relation to the above, I was under the impression that there are no BTU firmwares? They just release OXA firmwares which include many CSCs including BTU, and that it will just default to the most suitable CSC which for us would be BTU? Perhaps you downloaded some stripped down version of the above, but I'm pretty sure they will behave the exact same way.
