Handle bars and sore hands

I've got a mountain bike that I'm using to commute, in the past I've gotten sore hands from cycling after a little while. The handle bars are a swept kind of style similar to this:

It's the other part of my hand in--line with my little finger that get sore - if that makes sense? I'm guessing it's the sweep on the handle bars causing this, what would be a better style/type of handle bar to replace it with?

Its hard to say, but you might want to try ergon grips:

They provide much better support for the hand, particularly the 'outside' part of the hand.

Padded palms FTW - go long-finger if you're wearing them year 'round

    Not sore like Thor, luckily.

I need new grips anyway so I might try something like above, maybe not for 80bucks though!

    Already got padded gloves

I got my Ergon grips from eBay and best investment I made in a long time on the mountain bike, I got the ones with the built in bar-ends. From what I remember I paid 50 but loads of options so shop around.

Also worth checking that you have the handlebar set up correctly and at the correct angle with the brake levers also lined up correctly.

Got a link to show how to setup handle bars right? It feels like the angle of the sweep its wrong for my hand

I had an issued with MTB handlebars a few years back - the Ergons I can vouch for in helping with comfort and positioning that will help alleviate this issue. The advice I got from a physio was to try and keep the wrist in the neutral position, this is where the back of the hand and the top of the wrist are level, thus keeps the wrist from flexing and causing pain.

Any doubt, I would get the bike set up properly by someone who knows what they're about. Persistent issues, go to a physio.
