    Hi
I have ordered my gates there, double gates, 4.25m wide opening.
I have a shield 230v cable ran from the house to the pillar.

A few have said to me that I should buy the kit and do it myself. :D

I have seen 2 types, the underground and arm swing types. Is there a reason why a person would choose one over the other. I see that starter prices are the guts of 200 more for the underground.

    I don't have a big budget for this so I will be on the lower end of the kits unfortunately, BUT I don't want to install crap either. I was looking at a site in the UK there, I just googled it and found this';

    http://www.gatemotors.co.uk/template.php?pid=166&sid=48

Thats the underground kits. The Nice kit seems to have everything.

Is it an option to install an underground kit after the gates are installed, so that I could save up a few more quid and get a dearer kit.

If anyone could give me some pointers I would appreciate it.

Any reputible Irish sites who would sell these kits?

    Many thanks

Try these guys... www.amsteel.ie Ph no. 01 834 8083 they done a set of electric gates for me. They are based in Dublin but they came to Kildare for me, dont know about Mayo, but Im sure if you are thinking of fitting the kit yourself they could send one over to you.

You could hang the Gates and get them electrified and Automated at a later date. Just make sure to make provision for Cables etc in the Piers.

Thanks folks. I will try out them boys.

Ok, if I hang the gates now and then buy the underground kit is it possible to install it then? I only have a rough gravel drive so easy to dig out. I have the electrical cable ran to one pillar and a pipe across to the base of another.
Presuming thats ok, do they need to be within the pillars?

    Thanks

You will need power to the control panel at one pier. Then you will need to be able to get from that control panel to both underground boxes . Separately you will need to get low voltage cable to a key pad/intercom outside of gates to control panel (and back into house unless you go wireless). You should also fit sensors on both sides of gates (two transmitter's and two receivers) so they need cable to control panel. Don't run these smaller cables in same ones as main voltage or power to motors. If you don't want to install kit now many people install the underground boxes as they can have motors and rest of kit installed later. The cables don't need to be in the pillars. Its normally easy enough to get the small cables in relatively discreetly for sensors or they can be fitted on small uprights anyways.

Thanks VERY much Needles, thats so much great detail.
This is the best price on a kit I have got. Anyone have any comments good or bad :)

With regard the box heights in the ground. I have read that they need good drainage. I am presuming that if you are putting in 50mm of tarmac that they should then be installed 50mm above current levels in order to take that tarmac.
Also what drainage do you need to put around those motor boxes?

I would probably look at a wireless keypad as outside of having a switch wired up inside the house I have no access to bring in a cable.

I didnt yet tbh honest, too much going on to sort it out yet.

Getting good prices in the UK but I need to learn whats a good and whats a bad kit.
Was going fully underground kit, but think I might get a dearer arm system from the likes of CAME or one of those.

i got a quiko kit a year n a half ago, with the rams not underground and am very happy with it. if u know someone living in the north get one off the english site, a good bit cheaper than irish supplier. i know a few people with the underground kits, top makes not chinese crap n have had a good few problems with them.
if u just run a 3/4 hydrodare pipe between the 2 pillars before u stone it tarmac etc u can rig up overground kit whenever.
try running out a cat 5 cable alongside the armoured electrical cable for an intercom
