Hi Guys, I've to attend for jury duty in the Four Courts on Tuesday & I was wondering does anyone know if I can bring my iPad in with me? I figure I could be doing a bit of sitting around and I have a book on it. I just don't know what to expect. Thanks!

I don't think it would be a problem. The last time I did jury duty (district court), many of the jury panel had briefcases etc, because they didn't know if they were going to be put on a jury and if they weren't they were going back to work.

Can't see any issue with having it. Just make sure it's not going to make noises and obviously don't use it while the case is going on!

    Enjoy the experience.

Is it criminal jury duty if so it will be the Criminal Courts of Justice Parkgate Street. No issue bringing iPad, may be an issue if you actually get on a jury doubt if its ok to use it while sitting.

Are you sure it was the district court, no jury's in that court

You can be held in contempt of court if you email, text, etc. while empaneled on an active jury. Simple as that.

Bring it by all means, but if empaneled ... obviously do nothing but listen.

and don't forget to claim off your house insurance policy (€60 / €70 per day) for each day you're on duty. It doesn't effect your NCB IIRC.

Hmmm - might have been circuit court.

Really? Not doubting you but never heard this before. It seems crazy, what loss has occurred? And why are all home owners paying for it?

    From Aviva

    Jury service benefit

We’ll pay a benefit of €40 per day or part day that you or your partner are called to jury service, up to a total of €650, with no loss of your no claims bonus

Hey give me some credit - I wouldn't be on any devices if I'm actually called for a jury!! I've a bit more cop than that - its the waiting around beforehand to see if you're going to be called that's what I meant!

Thanks for the advice on the insurance - I must check with mine what the story is.

I don't know if its criminal courts - I've just to go into the Chancery Place area of the four courts & then I'll probably find out.

That's the city end of the Four Courts, the maps on the Courts Service website says High Courts 24, 25 & 26 are based there - libel case perhaps? That used to be the Circuit Criminal Court so several of the courtrooms have seats for juries.
