Right lads new to android but after reading around about the problem im getting i think i f'd my s3.
What happened was it was on 4.0.4 and was unlocked to all networks i don't know whether factory unlocked or software, so i updated to 4.1.2 with odin and all went well but now my phone keeps saying "not registered to network", also the serial number only reads as all 00000000's and my imei has changed??
I found the meteor Ireland 4.1.1 rom and flashed it with that but still all my details are changed from what they should be , i didnt back up so just wondering if there is anything i can do or is it for the bin
    Thanks

Where did you get it? If something was done to it before then an OTA update can brick the device or cause problems.

Just want to give you some info on this. I had the same problem. It's basically where the phone gets rooted but for some reason the s3 seems to be a bit easier to mess up. The problem is the efs folder is wiped, this contains the phones IMEI number. Now back in October I couldn't find a fix as the efs folder hadn't been backed up but hopefully there is one now. Look up how to restore efs folder. I brought mine back and was lucky they didn't argue with me I just got a replacement.

I bought it off a lad I know, he says it was unlocked when he got it and didnt do anything to it, ill check up about the efs folder and see if I can get anywhere with it

From that description you may be out of luck, I'm a sony head but these things usually are unrecoverable after the fact.

This is why going to a chinese phone shop and paying a tenner to unlock isnt always the best idea, NAC is the only way you should do it(not that you did it yourself).

Just had a read on an XDA thread as my S3 is otw and I need to root it. Found this:
Q6: I have heard about EFS. Why is this so important?
/EFS is a partition on your phone where your IMEI code is stored. Without it your phone is an expensive PDA. Make sure to have a backup of this partition on a separate device.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news :/

So I have a lovely paperweight?

You probably have a nice brick alright but just have a look at this thread on Sammobile and this thread on XDA

Its for American S3's though so might not be any use.
There could be some helpful info there.
It's worth a read and maybe you could PM the XDA thread owner to see if he can help.

    And here:

Maybe a lotta reading, and maybe don't work, but maybe will.....

I have just provided these for info, to help, I have no knowledge, and these may not work, so all risks are your own!!!

Not exactly, it's still in warranty with samsung as are all S3's so get in touch with samsung and get them to have a look at it. If they ask for a receipt just say you misplaced it but the s3 is out less than a year so just state that and they can check the imei if they need to.

It'd be worth posting in the XDA I9300 QandA thread, detailing what you've already tried, one of the samsung pros my have other things to try.

Think I'm gonna leave it into the shop down the road and see if they can work their magic on it
