Saorview signal strength

I got a new TV today, our first saorview approved. Put up my aerial outside and measured the signal strength.

I have a little fringe electronics box for measuring it and its showing a signal strength of 54 dbuv. Is this strong enough?

Hooked up TV and picture is freezing. Have to check all connections before ruling connections out.

Which model Fringe signal finder do you have? Does it specify if it's UHF only or UHF/VHF?

Some of those signal finders are very wideband & would show readings from FM radio & all sorts.

You really need a meter that can measure the DTT COFDM signal strength and signal quality BER (bit error rate) for an accurate reading e.g. http://www.creativesatellite.co.uk/contents/en-uk/p1635_Digiair_Pro_DVB-T_Emitor_Terrestrial_Meter.html

DTT Max Signal Level = 70dBμV
DTT Min Signal Level = 45dBμV

BER - minimum 2E-04 (2 errors in 10,000 data bits), best 0E-08 (zero errors in 10,000,000 data bits). More errors than 2E-04 and the picture breaks up.

Pro tv and sat finder. Analogue and digital. Doesn't say any model type on it.
I put the aerial higher and got a stronger signal, seems to have sorted problem.
Getting 64 to 68 dbuv now.

If you’re taking the signal reading straight from an aerial with no amplification, 54 dBµV is a decent signal level & should deliver solid reception.

There’s no point criticising the meter, as it can’t be tuned to a single 8 mHz channel, so presumably just registers all the energy it picks up within the UHF tv band.
