Focus St

I've been looking at selling my van due to lack of use and replacing it with a 'fun' petrol hatchback for ocassional use so fuel consumption isn't really an issue.
My original choices were either a MK5 Golf Gti or a Focus ST.

I've decided on getting the Focus. I realise due to the engine size and road tax that it's a buyers market for these cars and also comparing prices of them here and in the UK it will have to be bought here.

From reading on here it appears there was no ST1, ST2 spec released here and this website http://www.etis.ford.com/vehicleRegSelector.do is good for checking the specs.

    Now a few questions.
    1. Is there any must have spec items?
    2. Anyone know where there is any original St's with no modifications for sale. Preferably in the west or east of the country?
    3. Anything in particularto look out for on them?

Spec? I had an ST1 which had auto lights, wipers, and auto dipping rear view mirror as extras. None of those was "must have" tbh but if you find a car with those, and also bluetooth and a Sony stereo it'll be only worth very little extra at this stage.

I'd say go for a 3 door only, and colour does matter. Performance Blue is good. The orange one is an acquired taste. The standard Recaro seats are fantastic - I'd prefer cloth to leather.

Shop around - lots available and they are a bargain too inho. Getting a standard unmolested example shouldn't be too hard.

Insist on a proper fsh, backed up by receipts. Do a data check too.

    Happy hunting.

    Thanks HenryFord.

There doesn't seem to be much on Donedeal. I have the same opinion as you on the Leather..sticky in the summer and cold in the winter:D

The Jury is still out on the orange..I'll have to see one in the flesh to make a decision.

There is a blue 5 door for sale i see on the way to work in a petrol station on the headford road, they look much better in 3 door though.

As for must haves i would say heated windscreen and possibly bluetooth. (I had neither of these and it wrecked my head in a 2007 car)
You should see afew more pop on the most used sites as summer comes along was a good few last summer anyway.
Oil filter housing/standard rubber cv joints are known issues but a cheap fix.

Overall i love mine great car pity about the tax and the seating position is abit elavated if you are a 6 footer like me.
Lots of helpful info here, worth the tenner or so to become a member and be able to view the technical info/how to guides and local boards. http://www.focusstoc.com/forums/

great choice, I have an ST170 and aspire to an ST although it will double the motor tax almost.
Colour? well the Orange is fantastic but I think I'd tire of it so Performance blue for me (not as noce as Imperial Blue that my ST200 mondeo wears but nice enough!!

I didn't even know there was a 5dr but it will have to be a 3dr.

I had a 2006 3dr in Performance Blue, loved it. I would say it’s a buyers’ market out there so be very fussy and get the car you want. Put a wanted ad on donedeal and you will get plenty of people contact you Mine had a lot of extras including the heated leather seats but remember with the leather it’s only a 4 seater. I’m sure the reason i sold mine on so quickly was the spec so avoid the basic spec. Also avoid Orange if you ever want to sell it on again, blue is the safest colour but I would have loved white at the time.

No the basic st didnt have it. Shocked me too the fact my focus van has it standard and an st didnt have it standard. It is a great gadget though I can't understand why more cars don't have it.

Odd isnt the word, Ripped off probarbly suits better:mad:!!!
I bought a focus van myself back in 07 that had heated windscreen as standard
and I just cant remember sitting an any focus (not sti) without it.

But as you say this is Ireland and what may be normal spec on a bog standard
van could well be an extra on a top of the range STI:D:D:D
