Was talking to someone recently and they mentioned that the New York City Marathon costs 300 euro to enter?

    A) Is this true?
    B) Apart from the obvious of running in the biggest marathon - What do you get that justifies charging 300 euro?

Not sure it's that much, take a look at their website. Might be $300, I would say its worth it. It costs €1000 to close a back road in Kilkenny for a 10 k race, lot of logistics involved in New York along with getting 40000 people to the start and beyond

You get to run in one of the world's greatest cities. There's a reason it's more expensive than Longford or Watford!

I am doing it this year. The way I see it, its a once in a life time experience for me.

I will report on it in November

It was $347 last year for international entrants.

    Value for money? Absolutely not.
Would I still do it? Absolutely!

If you take into consideration the costs for flights and accommodation, the entry fee will only be a very small percentage of the overall cost anyway.

For those who turned up in New York last year having paid hotel, flights etc to be told at the expo that the race was canceled have to pay $400 again this year if they want to run the race tells it's own story.

I did it back in 2009. I definitely wouldn't call it value for money when you put it up against the likes of London or Paris, but its one of those races that is worth doing once, and I don't regret it for a second. Fantastic experience, but the money, the time, the logistics are definitely a sacrafice.

No refunds for last years cancellation??

    3 options were offered

    1. Refund.
    2. Defer with no refund and pay full fees again.
    3. Entry to NYC 1/2 with no refund and pay full fees for that race.

Did it in 2010 and loved every minute of it. If I could afford to go again, I would love to but realistically it's a one off due to the cost involved. It's certainly an experience though. We made a holiday out of it and stayed a week (easier to justify to other half ;))
