    Hi all,

My wife just got an Android phone; I've just downloaded a Kindle file which I can see in the Downloads app. If I click on it, I get "cannot open file". If I click-and-hold on the file, I get a "Complete action using" menu with the option "Amazon Send to Kindle". However, when I do that, still nothing shows up in Kindle. Any help appreciated,

    P.

I dont use that environment but surely the DRM means you should be downloading it direct via the kindle app, and if you arent its not legit?

    Mucho implicationo???

You can get non-drm mobi files from many sources, just one or two below:

    http://www.booksshouldbefree.com/

    http://www.gutenberg.org/

With gutenberg, you can d/l them or send them to dropbox or g-drive, etc.

It's all legal, just not Amazon!!!

You will need the Kindle reader app for you phone, from Play, or another mobi compatible reader....

here is just one, but there are others:

    Moon+ Reader

You can send personal document files, including mobi files to your Amazon kindle e-mail address, abc@kindle.com, in fact you can send archived, zipped multiple files, and the will be delivered wirelessly to your device, which should be registered with Amazon. You will need to check up the kindle management on Amazon.co.uk

    or check this out: http://www.amazon.com/gp/sendtokindle

If using Kindle Reader app, do below.

Your mobi file should be in your download folder, on your sdcard.

Use myfiles, or another file manager, but I don't know if you are rooted, so myfiles is OK for this.

set myfiles settings up to see hidden and extensions.

In myfiles, tap sdcard or [sdcard0].....

see download folder...tap it, and see your xxxxx.mobi file there.

long-tap on the file, [tap and hold for options], you should get a list of options, select move.

you should get sdcard screen again, tap it, tap on kindle folder, [should be there if app is installed], then tap "move here" on top of screen, I show you pic below:

Book will show up in kindle app, when launched, in home, and as on device....

OK, thanks. No, not rooted. I'm using Kindle files from Gutenberg to test. I'm amazed this doesn't work "out of the box", so to speak. I would have assumed that, like on iPhone, a .mobi file would be automatically opened by Kindle.

did it work, cos I d/l'd a useless buke otherwise.....??

Android, it's iffy OK, my book didn't even show in downloads, but it's in download folder.

But if you root, it is wide open to do almost anything, including mucho damage.

Calibre is another good tool to send books to kindle, it has a management tool for e-mailing to your kindle.com address, and you can send multiple books.

It is primarily for converting e-pubs to mobi, and much more.

you shoildn't be without it, brilliant, but a little learning curve :D

I use Kindle: You need to have the .Mobi files under the Kindle folder. It automatically adds them to the library when you use it.
