Hi, maybe someone will know, I've been in receipt of DA for years, have tried studying to improve myself to eventually, hopefully, get off it but it hasn't usually worked out, that said I'm less than a year away from obtaining a degree by distance (that said a degree that prob won't get me a job!) Anyway, my better half is also studying by distance for an MSc, she graduated with a BSc in IT last year. She's thinking of packing in the Masters and just starting her career, plenty of options for her. My question is, if she gets say a gross starting salary of about €26,000/€27,000 a year, do I lose all my DA? Currently my wife is on my claim, she's my "qualified adult dependent". I think we both keep medical cards for 3 years or at least I do? Not sure what happens with free travel and household benefits package? Maybe someone will know. Thanks.

I think you may lose part of the payment, but not necessarily everything. However, you should invariably be better off.

I don't know the rules for medical cards, but I suspect it would be less than 3 years. Note that if you need medicines that there are other schemes that provide reduced charges and there is also the option of a doctor only card.

If herself gets €500 per week you will be means tested on that.

€500 less prsi and pension =€450(at a guess).

Means=450 minus 60 =390 get 60% of 390=234. Weekly means are €234 max payment on DA for the two of you is €312.80.Your payment will drop to aprox €78 euro per week.

Household benefits package will go (every body living in the household must qualify)
I think you would keep you free travel pass.
