    Outside of the major cities like Dublin Cork or Belfast what is the "best" place to live in Ireland from a transport point of view? There might be good motorway or rail connections or both. It would be interesting to see what people think :)[/QUOTE

    Athlone is good to get to Dublin or Galway and to some extent not limerick.

    It is not great for travelling north or south.

    Now train wise you can go to Dublin Galway or Westport.

    There is some buses running north to south but not much.

    So in conclusion Athlone is grand cause it lies on the Galway Dublin road.

    Most places are similar n being set up to travel to Dublin.
