just posting this up for my girlfriend dad, he's looking to buy new, trading in his ranger. he's basically just looking at whats out there.

    ford ranger
    nissan navara
    toyota hilux
    mitsubishi l200
    isuzu d-max
    vw amorak

are those the only options available in ireland? has to be a 5 seat crew cab pick up.

under the impression that you're looking at a 6 month lead time for a ranger, never got a call back from toyota.

I love the big muscley look of the Anorak. Friend of mine has one and is very happy with it. Sales of them seem to be poor though as I see very few of them on the road.

I know a few people (myself included) are waiting to see if they throw the 3L V6 TDI engine from the touraeg into it , the 8 speed auto suits it and they have atleast built a test model according to a few blogs. Thats the only reason I havent gone for it.

the new ranger looks very like the f150 though nice and boxy.

didn't even know what that was, had to google it. looks ropey enough, could be wrong though but i'd say its not very hardy.

i think they look nice too, only a 2.0 though? he seemed to like the look of it though, he didn't even know they existed until i showed him tonight. vw dealer is only 20 minutes away so i'd say he'l take a look at one.

he intended to just trade up to a new ranger but seemingly only one dealer in the country has a new one for demo? toyota dealer doesn't seem interested to do a deal for a hilux. he's not too taken by the navara which i find strange becuase (i think) they share a lot with the ranger?

thats what put me off, engines that small in vehicles that big just arent working yet, I dont even like the 2.5 in the new d-max. Nissan released a 3.0 V6 diesel Navara in the UK but it never made it here, its the most powerful of the rhd crewcabs at the moment, but would have to be imported.

I'm no Toyota fan but to be fair the Hilux is probably top of the class in that category.

on fit and finish the amarok wins out, but you pay for it as a result.
for ease of parts, accessories, towing - the hilux wins out but yet again its expensive
the new ranger is great except the 3.2 doesnt come in automatic which is a bit annoying.
the navara is nice but the d40 is getting on a bit , rumors of an overhaul for 2014
the new d-max is the cheapest of the big names, but the front end isnt great looking and im wary of the 2.5 block in it now.

its funny. i didn't ask him the specific number because i didn't want to be intrusive, but he said he was looking at the largest cost to change from ford, to swap ranger for ranger. best offer seemingly was on an l200.

his ranger is 5 years old, 2.5 with only 30,000 km's from new, crew cab with the full size glass fiber canopy over the load space.

i think the new d-max looks quite well. he's looking to stay at the 2.5 engine size, but just from reading brochures seemingly economy doesn't drop that much if you push it to a 3.0 in most cases.

Been pricing Crew Cabs this week. Looking at the very basic models due to the work that it's required for, so I didn't bother pricing the Amarok.

6 Months estimate on the Hi-Lux
My Ford Dealer has a Black Ranger Base model in stock that he'd love to get rid of.
L200 only comes in one trim level now, no issue to get hold of one quickly.
    Didn't check on the Navara
    Didn't price the D-Max

Did supply an Amarok a few weeks ago in Cork (didn't see it). VW are offering a styling pack FOC at the moment. Roll bar and load liner - possibly tow bar as well. Picked a Trendline 163 in Grey up from stock, but there weren't many others around.

Is there any reason the Anorak is selling so badly or is there just fvck all market for pickups these days?

Not much of a market nowadays.

A huge amount were with builders, so now there aren't that many builders around, the market has died off.

its the most expensive pickup with the smallest engine and they dont sell the single / chassis cab here afaik.

the crewcab pickup market is a limited one anyway, especially with people percieving the commercial tax for private users loophole closed.

Yeah, on top of that any of the lads I know involved in construction who would have been 'Jeep' / Pickup drivers are now in a more practical Transit / Hiace / Transporter.

interesting reading with the amarok offering the few upgrades, i thought they looked a little dull as standard.

just for curiosity, he is a tradesman, he has a new model lwb renault master, only uses the pick up the odd occasion but would be registering it to his business.
