Nipple tattoo

Am interested in getting mine done in the shape of hearts. I want the colour of the hearts to match the colour of my areola.

Does anyone know someone's who has gotten this done, or a tattoo artist with some pictures? I've seen some ones that look awful, either a completely incorrect colour or the heart shape is really vague. I want to make sure the tattoo artist can achieve this before I commit.

If I get this done, I'd want to be happy with it. Need any info on tattooists (I live in Dublin) you have :D

I just had look online there as curiosity got better of me and some pretty cool ones on it
The majority of what I seem seem to be humour ones
Is that what your interested in?
I'd say most attooists see it as just an ordinary way of tattooing just different area
Also it's put some ideas in me own head now :)
Only way of finding out I suppose it to just ask a few shops and see what they come up with

On a slightly off-topic note, I'd love to have my nipples tattooed a different shade. I think having a slightly more purple hue would look great against my skin, which is pale as can be. :p

Some very good info in this article about nipple tattoos.

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/women/womens-life/10000233/Nipple-tattooing-sweeps-UK-as-women-strive-for-perfect-boobs.html

If you want it well done, seems a tattoo parlour isn't the place to go!

If you want it well done, seems a tattoo parlour isn't the place to go!

The two-hour procedure, which can cost up to £1,200 for both nipples, lasts around 12 to 18 months and top-ups are recommended to restore any colour lost as the ink fades over time.

    €1200 pounds:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

I see a niche in the market.

Feck all that stencilling and stuff.

Im opening Irelands first nipple tattooing shop.

This time next year Ill have my Villa in the Caribbean.

You'll have to offer scouse brows also though.

I'm wondering what those deleted comments were now...

Any place in Dublin you'd recommend, so? I'd prefer to have someone who has done nipples before. It's the colour and shape I'm worried about, I'm sure they can tattoo anything but I'm concerned that the colour will be too light or dark and not look right.
A quick google search ("heart nipples") brings up some good ones but I've seen one where the heart was an orange brown and she had pink nipples... And some weird almost-heart shapes, nut not quite.

The article Princess Peach posted contains some good tips on what to look for, I'd recommend that you have a read of that.

I found this one too with lots of info

    http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2013/04/19/nipple-tattoos-increase-in-popularity-in-uk.html

Seems that as the area needs to be anaesthetised, regular tattoo parlours aren't going to be able to do that. Just a topical numbing. So gonna need a clinic that specialises in it.

I wouldn't say anaesthesia would be needed to be honest. If its only the areola that's not going to hurt anymore than a tattoo anywhere else.If its the actual nipple Id be actually wary of going near that with a tattoo needle. You don't want any scar tissue there that could interfere with breast feeding in the future.

While it may not be something you're considering at the moment it is also worth while to remember that your nipples may change colour in the future too, they often darken with pregnancy hormones. Though this could just add even more character to your tattoos!

Areola is a lot more sensitive than surrounding skin! Maybe it's different in guys.

Yeah I'm aware that they might change in the future, and I'm okay with it! I can always get them re-done a darker colour or, if I don't like the shape, can get rid of the heart shape. I just need a tattooist who can get the colour right

You do realise to get rid of the heart shape you'll have to do a larger circle around where you got the heart? Unless you wait and hope the colour fades out completely.

I had a search and couldn't find anywhere in Ireland offering it. You're best chance is to contact the clinics who do it for mastectomy patients and see if they offer aesthetic services.

Yeah I know it'll be bigger, unless I go for laser or something. I don't see myself regretting it so much that I'd want it removed.

You don't think a regular tattooist could do it?

Absolutely no problems to a regular tattooist.

Its a heart shape coloured brown, tan whatever.

I think what PP means is that it might be something that a cosmetic tattoo artist mught be more accustomed to doing.

    Tattooing an actual nipple!!!!

If its anything like a nipple piercing then I wouldn't go near it.Worst piercings I ever got pain wise.

I'm going to make sure they don't tattoo the actual nipple! I've started asking around in some places to see if any artists would be good at colour matching. Only cosmetic service I can find that would do this (all other services are for mastectomy patients) does not have a price up and would likely be far more expensive than a tattoo

It was pointed out to me that you are a LC student, so as I'm unsure of your age, I'd just like to say that you shouldn't try to get any tattoos done before you are 18, as nowhere reputable will tattoo a minor, particularly on the breast/around the nipple.

Also, I'd be concerned that you do seem to think that masking the tattoo or getting it removed by laser would be a fairly straight forward procedure. This is most certainly not the case, and because of this, I'd urge you to put some serious time/thought into this decision. If you go for a cover up, you will end up with what looks like an extremely large nipple. Laser removal is a more painful process than getting a tattoo, and there's a good chance of being left with some scarring from laser tattoo removal. In such a delicate area, this is most definitely something that should not be taken lightly.

I wasn't being nonchalant about laser or anything, I just don't see myself regretting something as small and simple as this in the future (unless the tattoo itself isn't done correctly), so wasn't really considering laser removal.
I'll be giving it some more thought before I get it done anyway, was just checking out to see if it can be done. At the moment I don't see how I could come to regret it so I need to have a proper think over that, asking here was just a preliminary "can this even be done right"

Also even though I'm a LC student I am over 18, or I wouldn't be asking about tattoos!

Edit: was also considering a simple white ink heart outline instead, as that would be far, far easier for any place to do and it's subtle enough that if I somehow end up regretting it it's not like it's a completely obvious tattoo...

I think it could be quite easy to regret it, as it could make quite a difference to how you perceive it. You could love it for the rest of your days, or you could end up hating it after a couple of years, so it's worth bearing it in mind and keeping the idea on the back-burner for a couple of months in my honest opinion. Last thing you want to do is to be getting laser removal or a cover up there.

The white outline does sound like it could be a good viable alternative, and as you said, it'd be less obvious too (skin tone dependant of course), and as it'd be less obvious, there's a good chance there'd be less chance of regretting it.

Sounds good. How often does white ink turn yellow? Or should I go for white with a minuscule amount of pink to try and prevent that?

In my experience it shouldn't turn yellow. The yellow is usually caused by over exposure to sunlight during the healing process. Not really an issue in this case.

That's not to say it wont happen but its something to consider if you do decide to go ahead with this.

Mixing pink in with it might make it less of an issue but then you are back to having a colour other than white outline....

I'm talking the tiniest amount of pink. Enough so that it would combat any yellowing from skin. I'm not sure if it's possible, I'm just thinking in terms of make-up where you use a yellow-based foundation for ruddy skin :D Some people have said it turns nicotine yellow and for some people it goes brown. Is that due to messing during the healing process or exposure to sunlight? As you said, won't be an issue in this case

If you're not sure, don't do it. I don't see why you'd even want an alternative. If you wanted heart-shaped nipples, wait until you're sure and then just get them. Don't settle, not with permanency.

I have 0 tattoos so far but a bunch of ideas. No ink touches my skin until I have the money and am in a position where I can get amazing pieces. Maybe I'm not in a position to talk, but this seems like a classic "I'm gonna regret this" tattoo.

    Just my two cents. :)

It's just an alternative design idea, that I think I could regret less. I'll be thinking for a while longer though, regardless on what design I choose

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 364 ✭✭RhoDoDenDron

You don't want to regret anything less though, you shouldn't regret anything at all. It's your body and it's not our place to tell you what to do with it, from from an advice point of view, it seems like you aughta wait a while longer. Heck, a year is a relatively small length of time, which would give you a lot of extra piece-of-mind.
