I got a €100 gift card for McQuillan tools that I have to spend. I want to get something for working on the car but don't know what I need/ want to get. I have most of the basic hand tools that I need so I'm at a loss as to what to get.

I was considering this socket set as I only have a 3/8 drive that actually belongs to me so I borrow my dads 1/2 inch when I need to...

So basically what would you get in my position (must be from www.mcquillantools.ie)

Not a great selection for motoring related stuff....!

    Something like this stands out

I bought a Draper Expert 1/2" socket set in McQuillans years ago and it has served me well. You might pick up some decent small tools in their bargain bins- I've found good quality screwdrivers, punches and hammers on occasion but you have to root through the bins and avoid the cheapo junk. Depending on what you need you might be interested in a good metalworking bench vise- they have a selection for sub €100 I believe.

Yeah there is a poor choice of motoring related tools unfortunately.
That socket set looks better than the draper one (don't know how I didn't spot it), I prefer 6 sided sockets to 12 for a lot of things.

    Thanks :)

Good tip on the bargain bins, I'll have a rummage

    A fantastic suggestion :)

Alas, just checked there, they only have a Stanley bench vice.... Record bench vice is the only vice imo
