Why not get free sims from any number of providers.
Afaik, you could use viber then, without needing to top up or anything, just be able to receive set up sms?? No??

Also, it, Viber, can be used on an iPod Touch, which has no Mobile 3G radio...

this is how as suggested by Viber rep here.

    Hi,
This is a member of the Viber Development Team.
Here are the instructions for what you asked:

    1. connect to WiFi from your iPad/iPod.
    2. download and install Viber app. when asked for your number, enter your regular cellphone's number, then confirm.
    3. an SMS message with the code will be sent to your regular cellular phone.
    4. take that code and use it in your iPad/iPod. Viber will then be activated, and you're good to go.

    * this means that if anyone dials your number on Viber, you will get the call on your iPad/iPod.

Viber rings the sim phone with an automatedvoice which reads out a number to use now. I tried this and used my other phone to take the call, however it logs the other phone out of viber. can't use it on both phones together ...

SIP works well on android, there's native support or you can use something like CSIP to simplify the setup. Get an address from ekiga.net or sip2sip.info and it works great. You're also not tied to one program or device so you can keep the same address for life pretty much, or at least until the address provider folds.

CSipSimple is great...you can use it with free Blueface SIP, AFAIK, at least I could a year ago.....think there is no support there anymore!!!

    Wiki here

    ekiga is good, as mentioned.

    Also, look at Sipdroid

here is a good article re native SIP Stack in the S2, as it was apparently stripped out by service providers, so needs to be added back....

    http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1109962

if you get it working, no SIP client needed, Android has everything you need, natively.

OK, CSipSimple might be easier, but think of the fun you'll have!!!
