Samsung S2 - Text Msg Backup

    Hi,

I'm getting a second-hand S2 but the old user now wants to backup their text messages to their SD card before I reset it to factory settings. The problem is that the user has already started using their new phone and now when they put the SIM card in to the old phone and try to enter the gmail password, it is telling them that the password is incorrect. I think this is because the account is now paired with the new phone.
If I put in my SIM card and back the messages to my Gmail, then get the user to put SMS Backup+ on their phone and email them the messages, would they be able to move them to their new phone? Or I have completely overcomplicated this and there is a much easier way to do it?

    Thanks :)

You can use your Gmail account with multiple phones at the same time, that isn't why the password is incorrect.

Hmm, well that kind of shot that in the foot :P Any ideas why it wouldn't be recognising the password, she is entering the correct password....

    Use this app

Its much better than SMSBackup+. Way faster and more stable.
That will create a backup that can be stored on either your internal or external card. Just choose which one yourself.

Just copy that file to a PC for backup (if backup is not saved on ext SD) and when the factory reset is finished place the file back in the SMS Backup folder on the phone (if it got wiped that is), reinstall the app and restore the messages.

No I haven't, I didn't want to put any of my stuff on to it until the old user had everything off it.

Only other thing I can think of off the top of my head is the time/date being wrong, that'd stop it creating a successful HTTPS link.

Think I have it sorted now, have finally managed to get in to the gmail account. Have downloaded the SMS Backup & Restore app and it all looks ok so far. Fingers crossed that it will work!

    Many thanks for the responses!

On JB all SMS backup apps have problems restoring. SMSBackup + crashed repeatedly and wouldn't work for me

SMS Backup and restore that I linked to earlier crashes sometimes but instructions are then given on how to proceed. Just reboot and go straight back into the app and continue. Read his information on Google Play and read whatever help he gives. It will work for you.

If you're on ICS or earlier then there will be no problems at all.
