    Hey Guys, quick question.

I missed one exams at xmas, therefore I have to repeat it in the summer and pay 200euro, this fee applies no matter how many you are repeating.

Anyway, Im pretty unprepared for my final exams now, and wondering if I just dont show for two of them will I be able to repeat them in Autumn no questions asked. I found out repeat marks aren't capped (final year commerce) and I am on a first so far, so dont want to take these two and score poorly. Especially as Il have to pay 200 and come back up in August anyway.

Anyway, best of luck to all in exams.

    Cheers.

I'd check what the policy is, in my day (a long time ago) in Science if you missed exams in your 4th year, for a honours degree, you just got a general degree same as someone who did 3 years.

I girl I knew, ahead of me, going for an honours degree in Chemistry missed her last two exams due to giving birth and was told by one professor that that meant she got a general degree, said if they had been told ahead of time they could have deferred them but her not turning up was the same as failing them, I have no idea what her marks were in the exams she attended. It was the last thing she needed to hear with a new baby. IIRC the thing was earlier exams missed could be repeated up to the finals but finals could not. So sitting them and failing the exams would have dragged down the average but missing them counted as 0% for both.

The Dean of Science (can't remember who that was but he got a female post-grad to come with him to talk to her) got involved and they let her repeat them because of her circumstances. The policy may well have changed but I'd want to be really sure before trying it. Maybe get someone else you trust to ask the Department? Best of luck in your exams.

cant decide whether to chance it, suppose as long as repeat marks aren't capped (which they're not) I should be ok..

If you dont go to the exam the repeat will be capped. Just go to the exam and sit there for an hour and then leave.

You can repeat final year exams? in chemistry we aren't allowed, you have once chance to do well and that's it.

Ok right, so you must present for the first exam. Cheers.

Tell me about it, I think it's the college of science in general they don't do repeats in 4th year only deferrals, if you fail you're given a level 7 and told to féck off.

If you don't have a reason for absence (in BA anyways) it's at the college's discretion to let you repeat them I think (uncapped definitely, in general possibly) You're honestly better going in and bombing the paper and being assured of a repeat than you are missing it and potentially having to repeat the year.

It's ridiculous to make students sit exams 'just because'. A lot of the time it isn't as simple as just sitting there for an hour, you have to get up at 7 or 8 in the morning, travel to the exam, get home. Given that most of us have quite busy exam periods it's more than just a minor inconvenience. The odd time I've had to do it was because my exams were so poorly scheduled that I knew I'd be better off allocating my time to other modules and tackling the one in question during the summer, and it's always paid off. The college would probably say it's a poor work ethic but to me it's just intelligent planning and if the opportunity is there I'll take it.

They should scrap repeats then. I don't see what the problem is, they still make a ton of money off you (€200 to mark one paper:rolleyes:) and the current system serves only to waste people's time.

you mean cap repeats? yea, every thing is a cash with them,, 200 bucks to repeat an exam, crazy really when students are so broke.
