Cheap and Cheerful in MAy!

Due to circumstances I can't really afford a good holiday this year, especially June - August, but I was thinking about booking a last minute week at the start of May. Somewhere warm, cheap to eat out, and not totally dead in May (but not part central, I'm on the wrong side of my 20s!). All I want to do is read a few books in the sun and drink wine for a week! Can see deals at circa 500 for the two of us.

So far the cheap deals are mainly the Algarve, a few Canaries, Turkey. Some mainland Spain but I have never been to those destinations so I'm not sure where's ok.

Would Albufeira be mad in May? I went to Lagos in June which is an older resort and I liked it but was fairly quiet. Kusadasi in August 2010 (I think)when I went was pretty dead also though! I don't want a nightlife bar nice restaurants, I just don't want to be the only people in the apartment block / restaurant if you know what I mean

Keep an eye on www.holidaypirates.com they often have last minute deals, the problem I've found is that many of the best deals are from Amsterdam so a last minute flight there would negate the savings on the holiday. But they have had recently some great last minute deals from the UK where the sail rail or bus option would get you there cheaply.

albufeira is probably your best bet in may as the other smaller resorts, vilamoura, lagos, alvor would be too quiet imo
this week the weather is 23degrees in albufeira, so expect at least that if you go early may. i have gone many times in may and the hottest we got was 27degrees
it's quiet in may, but not dead as the season is starting.

I'll second Albufeira. I've been there a few times in May and it's always been very nice. Not too busy, but not utterly dead either When I was there last the apartments we stayed in were pretty busy but obviously not packed full. There was a restaurant attached and they always had space for us. Plus all the other restaurants we went to had space also. The beach and pool weren't overly mobbed so it was quite easy to get a good spot to perch down for the day and read your books (pretty much exactly what I would do as well!).
