Triax ST-HD 537 suddenly gone on the blink?

    Hi,

Triax ST-HD 537 was working perfectly fine until switched on this evening and I was seeing "no signal" for all satellite channels.

When I attempt to switch to a terrestial channel there is
    1. No sound
2 Picture last only seconds then freezes and goes black
3 Message "service is unavailable" for terrestial channel is seen.

I tried re-tuning and all satallite channels were lost.

I went up on the roof to the dish and noticed the spirit level was no longer level [strong winds may have moved it slightly?]

I connected the triax to another tv and the same faults are present.

I'm baffled....If the wind moved the dish would terrestial channels also be affected in the way I've described?

And is that spirit level on the dish supposed to be perfectly level?

    Does anyone have any ideas?

    Thanks

    Hi Alan

I was having similar issues, no sound or picture on terrestrial channels. The picture would come on for 2 seconds and then go blank.I done a rescan and i now have sound but still the picture goes blank after 2 seconds.satellite channels are working away fine..I have a stand alone saorview box in the other room which is working fine.Head wrecking.I also done a software update and moved the box to the other room, same problem in there .Im beginning to think its the box that is the problem.

Thats exactly the fault I have with it now Jimbob. I rescanned this morning and there is sound but picture goes after about 2 secs. Only difference is I'm getting no satellite channels either.

You didn't by any chance experience a power cut during the storms this week?

I'm wondering if the power cut has somehow "fried" the Triax box so to speak?

No power cut Alan, but i find it strange that it just happened to occur during the bad weather that we had.i done a first time installation just there now. still the same, sound good but only have picture for 2 secs.the epg and text are working away grand. It has me snookered. Did u try a first time installation?

Yes I've tried that several times to no avail. Reseated all cables and tried connecting to another TV.

Its strange because I wasn't even getting sound last night and now that works for the terrestial channels but with no picture.

it would have been around that time as it was working fine at lunchtime but when I switched it on yesterday evening at about 7:00 pm the problem was there and just like yourself the sound was not working last night but it was working again this morning with no picture.

Just tried 1st time installation again now and no joy

Very strange, il try a few more things on it, if anything works il get back to ya. With any luck the picture will come back tomorrow morning. lol

I was on to a mate a while ago, he has the same sat box, and his is the same way.happened yesterday as well. he also said it happened to him about 6 weeks ago and it came back after a day or 2. no way could the 3 boxes go just like that.

Update! Mine are back on now.

Turned on the TV when I got in and its back except for satellite channels but the wind must have moved the dish I believe.

The problem we've experienced Jimbob must have been a transmission issue effecting 537 models only perhaps?

Sounds about right Alan.Once u move your dish a touch it will be grand id say.

    Problem solved for now anyway.

    Thanks again!!

    Hi Woodie

Im not too up to speed on the dish spirit level thing, but your terrestrial channels should be separate to the satellite channels. are u using an outdoor aerial for the terrestrial channels?

Yes, for me the box/software is the issue, I have lots of issues with the box. For example yesterday it just got stuck on the one channel and wouldn't change to another.

Ya i have to agree with ya, its a poor machine. i know they brought out an update for it last November , might be worth installing it.

I've been up and down a ladder all morning like a yo-yo runnning 1st time installation each time in a seemingly hopeless attempt to get the satellite channels back without a meter....

The only adjustment that seems could have changed is the skew [as in rotation] of the dish...

Can anyone tell me if the spirit level is supposed to be level?

It wouldn't have to be dead level for the dish to perform satisfactorily, but if it was originally level & isn't now, then something must have moved.

Thanks Ronnie. Least I know that now....I've since accidently broken the co-ax connector so that will have to be sorted first

I had exactly the same issue this weekend and found out (via our installer) that it was a transmitter issue which apparently affects this box only. See http://www.daltontv.ie/2013/09/saorview-signal-restored/ - it's back working again today.
