Doesn't seem to be a clutch problem,it's the oh's car.I had to collect it from where she managed to park it up and reverse it home.
Reckon it's a gearbox problem, any ideas folks or will it be a rebuild or replacement gearbox?

Has it been giving any issues before?
Did it work just fine before and then she put it in reverse and it stuck?
You probably already checked but will it not budge at all, engine on or off?
Does it crunch when you try?
As you said, if you can drive it it's probably not the clutch.

Could be the selector fork come loose.

Just for ****s and giggles if you stall it in reverse while pushing the gear stick towards neutral might jump out of gear.

Long shot but ya never know.

Never an issue until this happened, tried everything & won't budge from reverse.Hopefully it's just the selector as I got the gearstick to move but no gear change.

No,but my missus doesn't believe in trivial things such as keeping windows & mirrors sparkling clean, she thinks I'm ocd about it,the sun shining on the dusty mirrors & back window made it 'interesting'.

Can't help unfortunately but I can't be the only one wondering how far you had to reverse it?

Not too far thankfully,it was just up the road from the house but still got some funny looks.

I hope she'll "thank" you for reversing her car home.... It could be just the external linkage popped off.

The gear stick moves, would it not be an issue with the linkage then.

did one of the knuckles pop off?

    I have a couple of mechanic mates who'll have a look.Hopefully it's just a linkage problem.

Ah from the sounds of it I'd swear it was. Pop the bonnet and get the missus to move the stick it probably popped off at the box. A few well placed cable ties will get you to a garage if needs be.

Cheers, the cable ties trick sounds like some of the stuff I've had to do with vans & machines I drove in the past. Those & bits of wire:pac:

Good news (kind of),the clutch was engaged & stuck which meant there was no way the car would change gear.Got it out of gear & now need a new clutch & pressure plate instead of a gearbox.
