Here's what happens to the majority of arcade machines which are no longer bringing in money.

Yeah first hand from talking to people, when they arnt making money anymore they get shipped off.

A fella I know was telling me about a pinball machine he broke up for dumping...All he said was it was really old and had a rotary scoreboard

I almost bled from my eye

I'm sure you'll do the same with your Egret II when you don't need it anymore, right?

Pick Axe straight through the monitor? :pac:

o1s1n, its that pic real? If so I have to say it makes me kind of sad, genuinely. Those machines are really more than machines if you know what I mean.

I know a few European and US resellers of candy cabs get some of their stock (candies and parts)from the dumping areas in Asia. Or at least that's what I've been told over a few drinks while in Japan during the years I've been going over there looking for retro gold.

    Yeah I've heard that aswell

They'd go in and get the best of whats there and fill up a container and shi it off. Sure the ammount of cabs in Japan and the likes is beyond our comprehension over here really isnt it

    1. Go to Japan
    2. Go to a dump
    3?
    4. Profit!!!

If that had been Dr Crusher in the background he'd have manned up, in case there was a chance of getting jiggy with it later.
Seeing as it was the old crone Pulaski, he might as well let it out.

Check out this arcade graveyard. Look at all those pins, they're stacked like coffins!

    http://www.invaded.fr/2009/02/26/roadtrip-nouvelle-caverne-dali-baba/

    Edit - probably best not to run a translation on that page, you'll end up reading things like this;

During the first roadtrip, the seller had cleared one of several pinball warehouse for burn .... and after discussion had finally decided to wait a bit. So, it's pinball Stocka outside his home not far from the ground, so we present ...

It's really an amazing find. I was reading through some of it and it looks to be over several warehouses. Even one of the warehouses was disguised behind a load of undergrowth.

It was back in 2009 - so they've all either been rehomed or burned by now I'd say :D

This is what I see when people post pictures of arcade machines and pins getting burned or destroyed :(

Why burn them? Surely these people should realise there is no such thing as trash as someone somehwere will always nearly find a use for it.
    Well unless of course its

I was in Waterford the weekend with the wife, we went down to Tramore on Saturday to see if i could spot any Arcade machines. No such luck, its full of Slot Machines, Pokers, and Fancy Modern Gizzery Doos. Only think I spotted was what look like House of the Dead 2 and Point Blank 2 through a window of a closed off Arcade. Other than that closest i came where these two which arent exactly old...

I was in Tramore a couple of years ago and they still had loads of good stuff. Crisis Zone was the highlight I must have spent 15 euro on it. There are about 5 arcades there (and a couple of them are beautiful buildings) but they're probably mostly closed at this time of year.

They where all open dude, i was in about 5 of them up that stretch of road off the beach, but they had nothing except the modern games and a LOAD of gambling machines. One part of one arcade was closed, but i could see everything in it including the House of the dead and point blank. there was nothing else there. Spotted a Terminator Salvation game, those outruns, one or two other driving games that was about it. Hundreds of slot machines though!

Bummer. There were 5 or 6 pinballs there as well but most of them were pretty broken. It's a shame to see slot machines take over but Irish people of all ages seem to have no interest in even modern arcade games anymore. The ones in Dr Quirkies are rarely in use and that's the best location you could ask for.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,798 ✭✭✭Jack burton

Yeah Tramore isnt anything what it used to be

Freddies, which had a CSI and Simpsons pilball and house of the dead and few other great machines is closed down

The Atlantic is the arcade Keith is talking about, they close half of it off this time of year and its the half with all the games :(

They used to have a Theatre of magic I'd frequent but its been gone a few months now, I tried to ask about it but I got nowhere

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,154 ✭✭✭CathalDublin

Played those Outruns 3years ago down there, likewise there was no old games, didnt even spot that Theatre of magic of i'd have had a go.
That spinning wall across the road in the carnival is pure evil, I thought I was going to die on the bloody thing!

I'd be jumping straight into that outrun2 cab.
I've only ever played the outrun 1 full sitdown version before in Dublin airport when I was too young to remember the joys.

I had a go of one in stillorgan bowl around a year ago but it wasn't the full hydraulic sit down version.
Sega knew how to make cabs in the day.Pioneers

The Bowling place there beside the UCI in Coolock, sorry the Odeon in Coolock, has a 4 player Pacman CE machine, I was surprised that a dingy kip like that would have a thing of beauty in it's midst, like finding a Constable hanging on the wall of your local chipper, next to an ad for Italian kebabs.

They have a Metalica pinball in Dr. Quirkies at the moment and it's working perfectly (for now). It's a great table as well I've pumped 20 or 30 euro into it on the couple of occasions I've been there lately.
