Quick question, I record all my driving via iPhone on dash and this morning it recorded dangerous driving, it captured the reg and all. Anyone know is there anywhere I can send it, or is it just a matter of going to the Garda station?

I'd imagine you would need to make an official complaint at a garda station, and be prepared to attend court as a witness

Id would say its not really worth the bother im sure it would become a long drawn out process, hopefully the twit that was driving dangerously gets caught by the cops before they kill some one.

There is more than hope if some one reports it

Yes i suppose this is true although given the sh*t the cops have to put up with they might not be motivated to go after something like this.

    YouTube or it didn't happen.

[EDIT] How do you (the cops) prove who was driving?[/EDIT]

I have the reg and a video of the idiot driving the wrong side of the road, breaking a red light and taking an illegal turn, all within a few seconds of each other.

Reported it to traffic watch and they said they'll get the gards onto me. They want the video, I'm not going to court or anything drawn out, just want to pass on the vid and let them take it from there. I have it on youtube but not public yet

Pretty sure you'll need to hand over the footage and sign a declaration that it wasn't doctored etc. I know digital footage is a bit of a red herring in the court situation. Its pretty easy to doctor it unless it comes from 'evidence' approved recorders i.e. Garda Traffic Corp black boxes are all digitally stamped and can be verified.

Best case scenario is they'll call round with the footage and have a talk with the registered owner. If it was me, I'd burn it to a disc, go down to the local station and show it. Leave it at that.

Really have to get some gems online soon.

They ask the owner who was driving their vehicle. It's quite simple really.

Ahh, the gards just got onto me. I cant just drop in the video and forget about it. They need me to sign forms to say I was the one who recorded it etc etc... and possibly attend court...

This came up on another forum I use, the cops just wanted a time stamp - Android phones use the date and time for naming video files and I think that did the trick, not sure about iPhone.

Of course...it's as if you're pressing charges against somebody, you can't just "drop in" and disappear. Otherwise, the streets would be brimming with camera-phone welding vigilante wannabes in no time...

Surely you knew from the outset that you'd need to go to court? You have to go and watch the video in court and say that that is what happened i.e. as already stated, the video hasn't been doctored to exaggerate the event.

There's enough photo and video manipulation s/w out there these days to allow you to frame anyone for a crime so it's necessary for you to swear in court that what the judge sees on the video is a true record of what happened.

Approach your local Garda and see what they say.

Youtube +1, lots of people put up their dash vids there.
