towing a 10x6 cattle trailer part time
hoof trimming crush hopefully full time in the near future
and to use it as a car at weekends etc?

im looking for a jeep with easy running costs and that wont break the bank price wise and to collect chicks at the weekends ha :-) all comments welcome thanks in advance!

Flywheel is a huge prob with the santy if ya doing much towing. A 10x6 with a few cattle would be over 2 ton. That's the rating for it. Nice looking jeeps though and very comfortable.

Just be aware that if you put up a bit of mileage that it will only do about 30-35MPG and that is without a cow box or trailer on it. So if you were doing 500 miles/week it would cost you 100 yoyo every week. If it is a car version car tax will be over 700/year. You may have all this researched but it something to be aware of

Would want to make sure you're legal with the new regs coming in about towing weights. Not 100% up on the details, have some notes here from the last meeting I was at, but tired now. You have to reconcile the weight the vehicle is designed to pull with the weight the trailer is designed to carry and the weight of the trailer itself, or something like that anyway. It's becoming an issue.

Used to have one years ago, found it a great machine but doesn't have enough power for pulling you'll wreak it pulling any great weight in no time....

have used them from time to time. neighbour has one that i have borrowed every now and then. Have found them ok for light farm work like bringing stuff into fields and carrying fencing. Was not too impressed with tis towing though. Its ok on the road but doesnt like having any major weight behind it.

If your going to be doing any towing work on a regular basis (espically if there is a bit of weight like bringing cattle) but still want room for the kids id go with a crew cab pick up. do you need 4wd? if the weight your pulling isnt huge and the use of the cow box will be only from time to time then maybe a good estate car like a passat or aventis with a 145hp engine might be better. more power and less weight

That santa fe is a commercial so you cannot carry anyone in the back, clutch very weak in them , you need a jeep as opposed to a car that looks like a jeep, if you know what I mean

Agree with this - A Sante fe is an SUV opposed to a 4x4. You'd want to be looking and Land Cruiser / Trooper / Discovery etc. ranges to start hauling constant loads around the place.

I've used Land Rover Discoveries and Defenders, I couldn't fault them (I'm sure many could though) - plenty of guts to tow with and one of them was comfortable to drive (Guess!)

thanks for the replys folks, so ye dont seem sure ive about 2500 ta 300 grand to spend need a jeep that is easy on diesel (i no there not going to be as good as a car) but that will double up as a evry day vehicle!

wil i take the chance or have ye any other jeeps/suvs at this money to mind?
a estate car wouldnt have the towing rate so if i was stopped id be fooked im looking in to getting the trailer licence alright is there much work into getting it?

How about something like a transporter ?
Good towing capacity, shed of room in the back, two passwnger seats or you could go crew cab. Electronic diff lock would get you of many sticky situations. Very comfortable too.

had one for few years. Did great job for me pulling 12x6 a good bit with few cattle. Plenty of torque and clutch never gave bother.
Get 35 to gallon. was more car like to drive than some of the heavier jeeps. Get an 07 commercial for round 5 or 6k and hopefully not dogged.
Pretty bullet proof though in my opinion. Enjoy looking.
