To be honest, your options are limited, and they are probably made more limited by your choice of date. It was never going to be easy to get a solemniser for 31 December. How committed are you to that day?

The only option I can suggest is to contact the Humanist Association of Ireland. They have members who either recently have been, or very shortly will be, registered to perform civil wedding ceremonies. But they don't have many, so get in quick.

Plan B, should you fail to get a registered celebrant for 31 December but are committed to that day, is to have a non-legally-binding ceremony (for which you don't need a registered celebrant, or indeed a celebrant of any kind if you don't want one) on that day for your family and friends, and to pop into the HSE offices some day before or after 31 December to have a low-key, but fully legally binding, civil wedding.

I'd suggest getting married legally to deal the deal in advance and have a symbolic ceremony. 31 December is a tricky date at the best of times. The Humanist Association would be able to take care of the symbolic ceremony, or anyone who'd be good in a public speaking type role - I know a couple where the bride's brother, who's great with speaking and presentations - do a ceremony and it worked out great.

Definitely try the humanists, they will be legal by then.
You've also got the option of Fr Pat Buckley.

    Hey,

If you google solominsers in Ireland you will get a list of thousands, a lot of them are the HSE but there are alternatives.

Other than Tom Colton from the Spiritualist Union you have Brian Whiteside who is the Humanist and he can now legally marry you.

Try the Unitarian Church in Dublin they do limit the amount of weddings they do outside their own church in Dublin, but Pamela Mc Carty who is the contact might be able to help you out.

Another man who I have dealt with in the past is pastor Gerry Byrne. I don't have he details but you should be able to find him on the list.

    Best of luck!

    Sally
