When you say race bike, you do actually mean for racing right? Or sportifs or commuting? For what it's worth I have the Aqua t105 and I really like it. I'm not sure where you'd be getting it from, but if you're a heavy SOB like myself, try and wrangle different wheels than the R500s, they're not the best.

[Insert you are the machine cliché] LOL. I race on the Aqua. It's fine for it, it's the rider letting it down.

There are better bikes to be had for the price range.

If you are doing bike to work I'd recommend using the entire €1000 allowance and getting the most bang for your €uro.

Something like the Giant Defy 3 or Cannondale CAAD8 or the Kona Honky Tonk would be under your budget (the Kona is bang on your budget) and available from local bike shops in Ireland.

If you are willing to buy online you could look at the likes of Ribble, Canyon and Rose, the latter two do an aluminium bike with carbon fork and 105 groupset for just under a grand and that bike would be more than capable of racing A4 level and wouldn't be out of place in A3 either, the other options I listed would be fine for A4 and would be fine for A3 with a wheel upgrade.

Don't scrimp on the initial bike or you will just end up kicking yourself later on when you need to upgrade your groupset!
