I have a 308 1.6 hdi 2010 just about to do a service and wondered how long the pollen filter lasts ?? Any help would be great, I rang micks garage and the man said unless I live in a pine forest I don't need to change it

Definitely worth changing it alright if it's bad, pull it out and have a look at it's current state.

Any idea of where it is, I googled it but seems a bit of confusion, some say behind the glove box others say behind the bulk head

Generally I wouldn't rely on Mick's Garage for any sort of advice, but in this case he's not too far off. Just change it when it needs to be changed and judge that by looking at it. If you still have the original filter in the car it is probably due for a change, or you could just remove it altogether.

...your post came in while I was typing my first reply:

If it's like the 307 it is behind the engine on the driver's side. You need to lift up some sound-insulation to see it on the bulkhead and it just pulls out like a drawer.

I only asked him for a price €11 wasn't bad but he spoke to me like I was annoying him by asking

The man must be a goon so, it doesn't only filter pollen. I took one out of a car I had where the previous owner worked on a building site. It was so covered in sh1te I doubt air was even passing through it. They are also known as cabin filters, so they basically filter anything coming into the "cabin" :)

PS in this case it was behind the bulk head, but it wasn't a 308

I'd replace it after 2 years no matter what, even after a year you can see how much rubbish they prevent going in to the cabin. If you have just bought the car replace it now either way, not that expensive.

Not necessarily true. At my last service the car was two years old and the guys took out the pollen/cabin filter. They saw that it was still fine and put it back in again saving me the cost of a new one. And this was at a main dealer.

Yes probably depends on where you drive too, open motorway or country driving puts least contamination, I drive mostly in the city and checked mine after one year and you could notice it was fairly mank, almost black from its original white.
