Well was in with garage guy today and he said I have about 5k left on my tyres before replacement. They are bridgestone Turranza ER300s

Trying to decide what to replace them with, start looking now, as its only a few months before I will need them. From looking at ratings (if they are really important) 245/45R18 100W XL TL Michelin Primacy 3 seem to be the best option as they have a C rating for efficiency and an A for wet grip. In comparison the turranzas have an e for efficiency and a c for wet grip.

being quoted silly money for either but am curious if anyone has an opinion on would I really get that much difference or should I stick with what I have?

I have Audi A4 and have Pirelli PZero Rosso. I run 265/40/18(back), 245/40/18(front) which are fantastic for grip on dry and wet, but I'm starting to notice they wear out more quickly than other premium brands.

I might go with Continental Sports Contact 2 next though.

thanks for that will have a look at them also.

well the guy in kwik fit (i needed a puncture repair) said the turranzas are good for 25k-30k, mine have 22k on them and are pretty much on road to 27k replacement he reckoned.

Curious, Any particular reason you would have 265s on back and 245s on front?

hmm sports contact have a g for efficiency and b for wet..would seem worse than the turranzas....The Pzeros are an C and a B..

Do these really mean anything at all or does it really just depend on the car...

Found these for €800 on Camskill, compared to €1200 in dublin so am going to go for these, barring anyone thinks I am mad..i dont drive very hard on tehm and am doing just over 2k a month mixed city and motorway driving so hoping these will last a while!

Loads of options on camskill for top brand tyres in your size with the XL all coming in around €750 delivered.

    Goodyear eagle F1
    Bridgestone potenza RE050
    Vredstein ultrac sessanta.

Paying 1200 would be lunacy seeing as you should get them fitted for maybe 15 per corner.

I too am wondering why your have different widths of tyre front vs back.
Does this mean you have diffent alloys on the front wheels and back wheels?

Some cars have a staggered setup to improve handling and grip though usually this is limited to powerful rear wheel drive cars. It's a bit odd on a front wheel drive A6 alright though. A lot of BMWs are setup this way though it has probably more to do with aesthetics than necessity.

So this means the front and back alloys are different?
Or can you put varying widths of tyre on the same alloy?

Yes, I have 225/40/r18 on the front of my BMW 3 Series and 255/35/r18 on the rear, came from the factory that way. The rims are different width.
