Galaxy Tab 7 Wifi disconnection problems

Bought a Galaxy tab 7 for parents a few weeks back. Connected to standard UPC wireless. The signal bars were weak from day 1 even when is the same room as the wireless router but seemed to work OK. Now it's dropping connection. Is there a software/settings fix or is there a possible hardware issue?

Using a HTC one x on UPC and the connection seems to be a bit ropey from time to time, might be a congestion issue? Turning on and off helps
