Groupon scam:Bought laser hair removal, later told must buy €41 1% titanium sunscreen

I bought a groupon laser hair removal treatment. The groupon advertisement made no mention of purchasing a sunscreen. I then went for my consultation. I was told they would not do the laser hair removal treatment unless I used a 1% titanium dioxide cream. They would sell me this for 41 euro but I could also purchase it elsewhere as the brand La Roche Posay.

I asked what is wrong with my normal sunscreen SPF15 with UVA protection but was told 1% Titanium Dioxide is better. My sunscreen is perfectly reasonable. I feel I am being ripped off.

You are definitely being ripped off. Ask for your money back, if they don't give it to they're breaking your 'contract' if it said nothing in the ad about having to buy it.

It doesn't seem like Groupon's fault. The consultant recommended a product to help with the treatment, and even offered an alternative (La Roche Posay Anthelios products are around 20 euro).

Titanium Dioxide also provides some of the best protection against UVA damage, something regular suncreams lack. Laser treatment puts your skin at a much higher risk of sun damage/darkening shortly after treatments.

Report it to Groupon - they have little tolerance with this kind of stuff. Also your contract is with groupon

I agree with bcsm- this is not you being ripped off by the laser clinic, it's them just covering themselves.

Skin is hyper sensitive after laser treatment and a SPF 15 barely protects skin against even weak sunlight. Also the treatment will be rendered ineffective by UVA/B rays and you could be demanding a refund out of no fault of theirs. Any (decent) laser clinic would ensure you were using a good SPF.

It may be expensive but in fairness they did offer you an alternative cream at a cheaper price so it's obviously not just to push their own products. I would bring it up with Groupon as it should have been mentioned in the t&c's and they should have consulted with clinic re risks, aftercare etc before advertising the deal.

It should have been mentioned at time of purchase that you'd have to spend more money. I don't think it's a scam, but an oversight, and perhaps a bit sly.
