I've seen some odd speed limits in car parks. 5kph comes to mind

But I don't think I've ever seen 24kph elsewhere on a public road. Looks like a standard speed limit sign too.

Anyone else come up with something weirder. Kudos btw to anyone who can name the place where this sign is :D

I dont think its an official one as its not on a steel pole, it looks like its screwed to a tree.

maybe the 24kph came from a conversion from 15mph for a housing area maybe.

That's prob it. Did my sums wrong and had come up with 16mph originally which made no sense.

For what's worth, there was a town near Naples that had 5 km/h zones when I lived in the area. Yes, 5 km/h, not 50...and rumors were that the city council would periodically put speed cameras there. Never managed to confirm or debunk the rumor, although for years I wondered if the speed cameras would essentially take countless pictures of pedestrian's and jogger's bums!

It's just a makey-uppy speed limit sign. Mandatory speed limits are 30km/h ,50km/h ,60km/h , 80km/h , 100km/h or 120km/h. Road authorities can't just stick up any arbitrary number as a speed limit.

Exactly, must have been put up by someone thinking they are the traffic police.

you have these all over Europe where you are supposed to go no quicker than walking pace so 5 or 6 kmh

Normally only applied on very quiet streets or cul de sacs

It's up behind Cork airport. Very unusual, although the roads around there are in such a state you'd be just as well to drive that slow. http://www.google.ie/maps?ll=51.854138,-8.486316&spn=0.0044,0.019205&t=m&z=16&layer=c&cbll=51.854144,-8.486315&panoid=eXyOeXJoE9qMMx9Efz98VQ&cbp=11,78.13,,0,12.02

What I did not mention is that it was on the town's main, high-traffic volume road, not a residential access street or the likes. Imagine a normal two way city centre street with (5) signs slapped on :)
