    Where can I get a detailed guide that explains the various tests / readings that an NCT report generates?
    I'm not a mechanic, but it does tell me what's happening under the bonnet.

    There is guides in the report itself and you read this for more info
    http://www.ncts.ie/pdf/nctvehicleinspectionreportexplanatorynotes.pdf

    Is there a particular section you wonder about?

    I drive an 08 fiesta, in good condition,with 137,000 km.
    It passed the NCT, however the exhaust emissions caught my attention;

    Oil temp 110.C
    Low idle CO 002% HC 422pmm
    High idle C0 0.09% HC 90ppm
    Lambda 1.02

    The pdf doesn't help me understand this reading. I have replaced the plugs and air filter. The plugs looked clean / good colour with a biggish gap. I curious as to what might cause my elevated HC readings at low idle, yet they drop at high idle.

    90ppm at high idle would indicate oil being burnt, quite a bit actaully, certainly enough to require top up in between services.
