Engine Management Light :(

    Hi Folks,
I drive a 07 1.8 tdci ford focus. The engine management light came on last week and then went off again after a day or so. The car seemed to be running fine except that its very easy to stall when its cold. I got my mechanic to check the fault and its the EGR valve thats giving a fault.
But apart from the stalling when cold it is running fine.
Should i replace the egr valve or just take it out and clean it up and see if there is an improvement?
Thanks for any help you can offer......

Always start with the cheapest option so give it a clean and see how that works.
    You know how?

I know where it is so it seems easy to take out, just four bolts. Once its out I presume use brake cleaner and a good wipe???

Yeah that's pretty much it. Plenty of vids and instructions on google.
