Tipped from behind

I was stopped this morning when a car tipped into the back of me. I got a jolt forward and when I got out there was no damage at all to either car, so I just told the driver it was grand and went on my way. When I got into the office there was some talk that the chassis of the car could have been damaged and it might not be visible? Is this possible, does anyone know!?

Really depends on how hard the 'tip' was. tbh it would have to be of reasonable force straight on or at a bad degree angle to cause damage to the chassis.

If your bumper was in the slight test damaged then id put money on it being fine.

If you didnt experience much in the way of injury then your chassis really wouldnt. Sounds alot of office talk.

But if your concerned have the rear bumper removed and inspected beneath.

Whiplash can also manifest a few days afterwards (it did for me, but I experienced a more severe rear-ending). So pay attention to yourself, as well as your car.

Only one way to know for sure! Hope you got some details of the person who hit you.

My wife had a micra some years ago and a van hit her at about 10 mph. The front of the van was smashed up, bumper hanging off, grill broken and radiator leaking, also headlights broken, wings bent and bonnet bent up.

The micra had a crack in the bumper. We were of course concerned that there was damage underneath but the Nissan garage said it was just the bumper, and a respray on some scratches.
I thought they were mad and was seriously considering getting a second opinion. When I went to the garage, they had the car up and the bumper off and there was literally no damage. Mechanic said that, as a rule of thumb, if a car has very little distance between the passengers in the back seat and the rear bumper, then the back of the car will be very hard. If there is a lot of space (saloon or estate for example) then the back of the car will be soft.

Both me and and another user here have had problems with the boot lid not closing properly one day.
Both times it was because someone tipped the rear but left no marks. Rear bumper can be quite springy and leave no trace of even a hard impact.

Open the boot and check alignment. Is it straight? Does it open/close ok?

Btw, we both fixed it at panel beaters for less than a tenner.

Depending on the shunt the bumper could be damaged, and there could be damage underneath it all depends.
I hope you got some info off the other driver.

Fcuk! All I got was the registration of the car. I have not checked the inside of the boot for anything off - I will check though.

Don't suppose I have much to go on though if I didn't take any other details?

We were rear ended just a few weeks ago. The front was the worst off (we were shunted into another car) or so i thought. The back, which only had a crack in the bumper, cost the most. Turned out the boot floor was quite damaged and needed to be replaced.
