Claiming Rent Allowance

I have been staying with my sister for the last 8 months while I have been looking to secure employment. Am i able to get rent allowance as her house is quite small and she has kids? I understand that you need to be in paid for 6 of the last 12 months but obviously I havent paid rent since last august.

You cannot get rent allowance when renting a room from a close relative.

Thanks for your reply. I understand I cant get rent allowance while with my sister but can I move out to a different house and get rent allownce?
