So I had a giant rock stolen there over weekend sometime. Not very expensive bike but a lot of miles on it. Now i need to replace it. So will take advantage of bikes2work scheme i guess.

Basically I need it for commuting and weekend cycling, nothing crazy, I dont do 100kers or anything (usually anyway :P) It was an MTB I had but I guess a road bike better as replacement, so any recommendations?

For commuting i would get a bike with a rack, rear and frond mudguards, a hub dynamo and reasonably good light, not too thin tyres on 28 inch rims and maybe a geared hub.

Ribble make some good bikes that would double up a both a commuter and a weekend fitness bike. This steel bike isn't light but has full mudguards and would probably last a lifetime. It comes in at about €900 with a decent spec (link) and even if you go mad, it will only add up to €1.5k.

An lighter and more expensive alternative would be the all-carbon Dolan Dual starting at about €1,400 (link)

the riddles are nice, looking for straight handle bars, dont really like the racing ones tbh.
