Ok so im just looking to switch the hard drive on a playstation 3 . I have a spare 2.5 inch 500 WD 7200 rpm drive so im thinking be handy would save me money etc.

But ive read in many places for and against this.

Some say it heats more some say stick with the drives of the same speed of the original sony installed.

    Any feedback on this ??

Yep stick with the 5400rpm drives. There is no advantage of going to 7200rpm with the PS3, all they will do is cause more noise and vibration in the console.

There is tons on info on google and youtube. Go for it if you want, it's easy to do and swap back if not happy. Only take a few minutes but make a backup on the PS3 first and save all your saves to the PS cloud.

Ive changed hard drives on another ps3 before this is my girlfriends one. I forget what kind i put into mine but its run perfect and that was at least 2 or so years ago.

Performance is not an issue its more the fact a lot of people seem to mention the faster drives heat up more and because there in such a tight spot in the ps3 it would put more stress on the system.

Again though ive seen many mention that the change in heat should make no difference lol.

This is why im asking now :pac:.

It would save about 50 euro if i use the spare one but at same time i dont wanna end up with her ps3 over heating id rather pay the 50 euro if thats the case.
