anyone training clients in Dublin parks?

Hi folks. Looking to set up kettlbell classes in the local and surrounding areas. Ideally id like to keep classes small no more than 5-6 people so that each person can get a good bit of individual attention.

Anyways, dublin parks are charging 31 euro an hour for a permit to train groups in any area controlled by dcc thus putting the brakes on my plans straight away! Does anyone here train any clients or small groups in parks, if so ever been approaches by anyone asking for the permit etc? Any other ideas as to where I could train people?

    Thanks in advance!

I would have thought you'd get away with it in smaller parks that don't have staff - so not Marley, Bushy, Tymon etc but little ones like the one on Stanaway rd. D12.

Thanks. Was thinking that alright but im over northside and most of the parks in the area are relatively large and manned parks. Have one green space available to me that could be used but would have to gauge interest to see if people would want to train there

What's the potential like to cut a better deal with local sports clubs/schools to use their green space?

This doesn't make sense to me...its a public park, why do you need a permit to train people? So a group of people training together in a park requires a permit now?

If you're using public resources for personal financial gain, you should definitely have to pay.

The amount DCC seem to be looking for is bonkers, but there should definitely be a rate. I think a flat annual/monthly rate would be better, the hourly rate is just too high to make it financially viable.

What about all the taxes we pay!!! :P

I guess its fair enough that if you are making a personal financial gain something should be charged but 31 euro an hour sounds a bit extortionate.

    What about OPW parks?

Paying isnt the problem alright its the sheer amount that needs to be paid. AFAIK it came about because the bootcampers and tag rugby-ers were all descending on the parks every evening and taking over the whole place (tag rugby being a business and not a team sport). Same the sea fronts. Its basically any area controlled by DCC

I saw lads getting around the Bushy Park issue by training people on the slope between Bushy Park and Church Lane in Rathfarnham :)
Not controlled by the park and big enough to run a class.

What they should have is the Revenue Commissioners hitting the parks on Summer evenings.
I doubt all these bootcamp folks are declaring their income...

All bootcamp (or indeed any fitness class) customers should be asking for Vat Receipts.

Which, unfortunately, is probably part of the idea.

Kinda sad though isn't it. I mean, there are few things I'd like to do less than have a game of tag-rugby, but during the summer I do think it's great to see people out in the Phoenix Park getting some exercise, adding a bit of colour and life to the place. If someone is knocking a few quid out of it in the meantime, more power to em... but here they insist on taxing people back onto the couch...

played in a tag league in Herbert Park a few years ago, ~€500 to enter per team (times 20 or 30 teams), second night down the park guys were digging up the pitches to reseed, turned out the tag organisers hadn't paid a penny to the parks

I think its a recent enough thing as in 2011 ish. Prior to that they didnt need to pay them squat even though they should have offered up some sort of goodwill

Reminds me of the first (and last) residents association meeting I went to when I moved into my house - one lad wanted kids banned from playing football on the green cos it was wearing away the grass. Get em back indoors in front of the tele, asap!!
