Hi. Ladies could do with some help. I am fifty one and two years after a hysterectomy .i am 99 percent sure I am going through the menopause.i have never felt so lonely, my husband , who normally is the best in the world, just doesn't seem to get it, as for children in late teens they don't understand really either. I know I am probably seem like a real moaney bitch. I an normaly full of energy , would have gone walking most days. Now I just don't have the energy. I always feel tired. As a result I have piled on the weight. Recently I have being thinking of going on hrt. Any advice and would anyone have the name of a doctor in the dublin area who is good with dealing with this issue. Don't want to go to family doctor, see him most days.
Thanks in advance for any help

You can get an FSH test due in a local pharmacy, and that will confirm your FSH levels and if you are going through the menopause.

there are multi vitamins that you should consider taking.

Hi Mary 1910, sorry to hear you're having such a tough time of it.
The menopause is different for everyone ; some women sail through it
and some find it a bit overwhelming. For me, I am 52 and have been in menopause for the last ten years or so but only recently decided to ask my GP for hrt because I can't deal with my mood swings and hot flashes and lack of energy. I too have put on weight and it's getting harder to shift it because
I also have under active thyroid . I've only been on the HRT for three weeks
but I have definitely noticed my sleep has improved and I even went out walking again myself without having to be coaxed.

Whereabouts in Dublin are you? I'm sure any GP will be happy to do blood tests for you and give you advice.

You can PM me if you like and I'll give you my GP's number. She is very understanding and always happy to answer every question. You might have to wait a bit to see her though because she is always booked.

Hang in there, it will get sorted for you :)

Hi OP, get your thyroid checked out as well. Some symptoms of an underactive thyroid are similar to those of the menopause and they get overlooked in women of a certain age for that reason.
