Its about that time to update my tv again I have a 40" sony bravia I bought in 2008 its been a great servant but its time for an update I think.

I have a sony home cinema , ps3 , laptop ect and would like to stay with sony but I have been reading reviews for panasonics new st50 and they say it might be the best value for money tv of the year but I'm hesitant in making the move to plasma.

I know plasmas are good for films and hd content for there black levels but I play the ps3 and xbox 360 quite a bit and wouldn't be sure plasma would look as good for games and maybe too dark and not look as sharp in gaming.

Anybody with experience gaming on a panasonic plasmas if you could give an opinion it would be much appreciated , sorry for the long post btw.

Search the UK AVForums. You will find every detail on every model on there...BTW I think the Sony w9 is a magical looking TV,but 4k displays will be out more in number after this year i reckon.

Even the JVC-Sony 4K projectors are knocking spots off the 4k 84" Sony,LG & Samsung TVs though,so they will be among the pidgeons too around 2014-2015ish.

Its a huge investment now & u want to make sure you are getting the best value for money, even if it means waiting a while.:)

I don't think 4k will be the next 'must buy'. Although the hype about lately will mean that it is. It boils down to the limitations of the naked eye. In order to appreciate 4k, you'd need a 140" or higher screen. The naked eye just cannot see that definition. A decent 55" 1080p TV really is all you need. The 55W905a would be my TV of choice, and hoping to get one soon.

Only new technology that will be groundbreaking is OLED. But there are a few years left before price comes down enough to the mainstream consumer. Input lag is an issue for OLED at the moment, so for gamers it won't be and option.
OLED is 1080p, but by far the most stunning picture anyone has ever seen, even over 4k screens.

Life is too short. If you want a fancy new TV, don't wait around, just buy one.
