I dont know of any other apps that do this, if you know post it please.

    Runtastic.

Great app, doesn't kill battery life, monitors everything I'd like it to.

Nice gimmick with it is that it can plug into google earth and do a fly-along of the route.

Strava for me, too. Tracks all I want it and it has segments!

I have strava on my phone and only used it for the first time the other day as my Garmin is away being repaired. I don't have a bar mount for my phone so I thought it was wierd not knowing my speed etc while I was riding. The app worked well enough though

Endomondo is good. You can get a free version on the Google Play Store or pay for it for a slightly improved version.

Saw it being used by a fellow cyclist yesterday evening. Shows your fastest and slowest Km's, fully maps out the route, gives all the info you would expect really.

Only thing with the App's is they can be very demanding on battery. Im going to get a Garmin Edge 200 or Edge 500, just to save the battery from death :)

My Sony android has a chip that reads ant+. I use Sportypal. It records the data from my speed, heartrate and cadence sensors. It tracks me with gps. I am invited to upload to Twitter and Facebook. I can upload gpx files to Strava.

I use oruxmaps to record tracks and plan routes, great thing is that it works when you are offline given you downloaded the map you need first

Another Strava devotee here... As well as being a great tool for keeping an online log, the social aspect's a great motivator.

Strava on iPhone is fairly good but its a little bit imprecise compared to a dedicated device as it only logs every 3 secs. Just stay the hell away from mapmyride. Both the app and website are bloated loads of badly coded poop.

Why do you say that ? - I've used the MapMyRide and MapMyRun sites frequently and found them more than adequate certainly for route planning, distance recording etc.

The websites are slow, buggy and filled with ads not to mention badly designed - there's no flow to the user interface and it tries too hard at being a jack of all trades. The elevation gain algorithm is AWFUL compared to others like strava or ridewithgps as it doesn't take elevation readings very often so it miscalculates and underestimates climbs. The iPhone app is atrociously slow and it takes forever to both start a ride/run and then again save/upload it later.

Any suggestions for Nokia Lumia ? It's a windows phone so neither android or iphone.

I read somewhere about being able to use the gps on the phone to record a gpx(?) file which can be uploaded to Strava. That sounded ok but I am not really to sure how to actually do this.

Anyone who may have succeded in doing this and how does it perform ?

I use Endomondo and find it great. Nice site and stats. Regarding battery usage, for a long spin (multiple hours) I stick the phone in Airplane Mode. GPS still works so it logs everything and just uploads when you turn data back on at the end of your spin. Got a full ROK out of it that way.

I tried the Strava app and had problems on my phone. It was finishing my commute about 6-8 km early so I was missing data. Their support weren't able to suggest the cause. So now, I still use Endomondo but export and import into Strava for the competitive element.

Check out the Topeak PanoBike system. For now it only works with Iphone 4S & 5 but it's a cheap way of getting Cadence/Speed and Heartrate linked with maps etc.

    App is free.
    Cadence/speed is about €45
    Heartrate monitor is €60
    Iphone mount €25+

    • Endomondo for recording GPX files (BlackBerry dont have a MapMy or Strava app)
    • Strava for tracking my training goals online w/ files from the above
    • MapMyEide for pre-planning routes as it gives you a pretty good tool for doing so and uses GoogleMaps for same. Also gives you elevation in advance so no surprises!
