UPC HD and Multi room

    Hello

So ive been with UPC now for the last year and a half. Happy enough with them, have 50 MB fibre broadband and TV with them.
I have the Digital Select Extra TV which allows me to do the pause and rewind, on demand etc

Im looking to upgrade my TV setup and get :

    > A HD box in main room ( 60 Euro installation and 5 euro extra a month )
    > A standard digital box in the 2nd room ( 45 Euro installation and 5 euro extra a month - I already have a UPC point in this 2nd room )

So gonna cost me 105 Euro to get this for installation
and then 10 Euro extra a month

I know if you ring SKY and threaten to cancel that they sometimes may give free installation. Does this work with UPC ?

I got a non-HD non-recording multiroom (Pace) box for the bedroom and it was self-install.

To answer your question, I believe there is a 'loyalty' team in UPC where some threats to move might work to your advantage.

    Another q on this

If I was to get a HD upc box in main room, would the picture quality improve..............on the non HD channels ( seeing as the connection would be HDMI and not scart )

I have a full HD TV.

With a HDMI connection from your HD box to the TV it would.

I think he's only talking about the non-HD channels, that's what you asked about.

Though I'd disagree with him. I have a non-HD UPC digital box using SCART to a full HD TV like you. I can't see how the picture could be improved by HDMI, it's pretty good for example tonight watching the golf on BBC2. Just make sure that you're using 'RGB' in Menu/Settings/TV Settings and the SCART signal is as good as you're going to get for non-HD channes as far as I'm concerned.

It's a given that you'll get a better picture on the HD channels.

Sound, thanks. I'm watchin the golf here too on the same setup as you ; )

    And picture decent

But then I just started wondering about the a new box and HDMI cable and picture quality on the non HD channels.

SCART carries an analogue signal so there might be an improvement (going to HDMI) in picture quality with the non-HD channels if you're currently using an inferior cable or if there's any electromagnetic interference with the signal caused by nearby motors or other electrical equipment, something that will not happen with HDMI because it's digital. Which by the way is a reason not to pay stupid money for a HDMI cable because all the gold plating will make not a jot of difference to the zeros and ones going down the wires.
