Hi have found these red stalks growing in front and back garden this spring. Did a bit of googling and am in dread of it being some Japanese knotweed tyrant-only plant I came across that might be. Anyone know and if it is this anything I can de before takes over my tiny garden!

What's at the bottom of them, are they coming from a bulb?

Don't know what that is to be honest.

    Seefin,

Calm yourself, as far as I am concerned Japanese Knotweed does not present anything like that out of the soil.

If you could show a wider picture it would be more help, but pretty certain it aint knotweed.

The way of killing knotweed FYI is to spray with a 5:1 or stronger solution of roundup also inject the stems with a syringe or specialist stem injection kit.

    Hope this helps,

    M.

It's a peony. One of my favourites but I can't grow them, It's just too wet when they flower. :(

this is what convinced me it was knotweed-reading it again I've fallen a littlefrom my peony high! Article says it presents itself in spring as red shoots resembling asparagus-this is exactly what these shoots remind me of. Just saw photo of peony shoots though and also looks really like these so going to go with that

Japanese knot weed shots would be smaller and the stalks are a brighter red. Also the leaves are lime green. The stalks have segments a little like bamboo. I'm quite sure from your picture thast this is a peony. Now if you get flowers, I hope you get some dry weather. Mine hasn't popped up yet so maybe the cold has destroyed it.
