Vibrating door

As the title may indeed suggest, I seem to have a vibrating door in my new apartment. Not all the time mind, it only vibrates in the evenings. Its a hot press door and there is no good reason why it vibrates... no motors near by, nothing at all that could be causing it. Anyone else have this problem?

Is there any ladies in the apartment?

Pick the vibrator up off the floor....or at least turn it off.

The missus is clearly not happy, you should focus on that and the vibrating will go away

Exorcists is what you need, look up the GoldenPages.

OP, a Kango Hammer died during the construction phase of your apartment block.

    Exorcism required.

Are you living near a source of vibration? eg, main road, railway line etc.
The vibration from these could be carried through the ground up tou your flat and the door is sensitive to it, put some draught excluder around the door that should stop it.

No sources of possible vibration near by.. no roads, only the access to apartments, no trains, no planes overhead. It lasted tonight for about fifteen minutes from half seven on. Its an odd one..

You'll have to burn the apartment block down. Only possible solution.

Does it vibrate when the heating comes on? Maybe the pipes are doing something to make it shake.

Otherwise, it's a little creepy girl ghost contacting you in morse code...id move out.

Jam a bit of paper in the top between the door and the frame where it opens.

Problem solved .. you can give the 50 euros to the fella in that other thread for the communion.

Heat from the hot press could be causing air to move around the door causing it to shake, perhaps achieving some sort of resonance causing a vibration. Jam it?

Could be a water pipe for the central heating, pump doesn't have to close by to make the pipe vibrate and the door to resonate to it.

are any of your neighbours ladies? Have a chat to them about conserving energy:pac:

Its not vibrating pipes, I've checked that. I've checked everything, even the walls in other parts of apartment to see if vibration is being transmitted from elsewhere. Its not coming from the water pump, or the boiler which is in another room.
I've tried jamming the door, doesn't help. Its a pretty high resonance vibration, but it goes when the door is opened.

Power cable to the immersion perhaps, check what electrics are on when it vibrates.

If it persists when the door is jammed I'd doubt it's air but it might be worth taping around the edges of the door (making it airtight) just to be sure.

    Natural frequency
    Washing machine spin cycle
    Apartment above or below

I'm an engineer & it's most likely the above.
The 15 minutes thing is the most major clue.
The door frame is most likely resonating in natural frequency.
Get your offending neighbour to put a rubber mat or extend the feet on their washing machine.

Is the apartment part of a block, or is it over a business premises?

the wood is vibrating from the door starting to buckle and its the heat from the hotpress thats cauing it to buckle! So because its all bandy it vibrates when opened.

which is helpful if we all lived in Monaco, back in Ireland it's blocked on copyright grounds :P

As for the problem, i'm going with the Engineer on this one, seemed a confident reply.

Could well be a ghost washing machine though. Maybe an old Zanussi coming back to haunt you.

Do you have a power shower? The pump to increase water pressure vibrates when you turn on the taps.
