2008 13" Macbook Battery Cover Will Not Close

A quick google shows that it was a problem with some, Ive only just discovered it with mine as had to replace the battery after 600+ cycles
Without battery installed the case shuts fine even though only 2 of the little 4 grip things are L shaped - is it supposed to be like that? (the others dont look like they were ever L shaped)
The minute I put the battery in though the main part controlled by the little opening lever will click into place alright but the curved edge part just hangs open & no matter what will not click into place - have been driven demented for the last 3 days with it
Anyone encountered this or a possible fix?
