    I get around 80 miles per 20 yo yo in a 1.9tdi passat 2003.

Or is it a case of just checking at the pump how many litres you just put in?

Fill the tank, drive and fill it again the next time. The amount it takes on the second fill will answer your question.

Not filling the tank is just guesswork.

Your method is completely flawed. €20 = ~12.91 L = 2.83 uk gallons, at 80 miles = 28.68 miles/gal. Which cant be right, or it might be & your car has something wrong with it or your driving the ****e out of it.

Brim it, reset the trip before you pull off, drive away for however long, brim it again, you now have the exact liters you've used since the last fill & exact distance traveled.

www.fuelly.com lets you log how much fuel you're using.

Fill up the tank, drive around and fill up again.

The tick is to zero the trip meter so when you fill up the second time you will have 2 things:
The miles driven on the trip meter.
Litres filled the second time on the receipt.

By putting miles driven and litres used into fuelly you will know your consumption.

You can do it manually instead of fulley using www.mpg-calculator.co.uk

    Taking fuel as 1.50.
    13.44 lites for €20.
80miles per 13.4 litres is about:

    9.5l/100km
    30mpg

    *Alot of rounding used
    Using OP estimates

It's a good site. I haven't not brimmed the car in about 2 years. 67,839 kms tracked over 99 fills as of sunday. The hard figures like total spend etc etc are quiet sobering!

I'm actually having trouble with my turbo so that may be right, my MPG could be low due to that.
