I took a years leave of absence from my club, as a result I haven't played any golf this year.

I'm going on a golf trip in a few weeks and need to confirm a handicap.

My last GUI handicap was 5, but this was when I was playing regulary. I was thinking about using 6 or 7 for the trip.

What's the right thing to do here ?

If its to play GUI competitions then you dont have a handicap and cannot play.
It it is unofficial casual golf, then play off your old 5. If you havent been playing then there is no evidence that it should be higher.

Thanks, I know the rules regarding GUI competitons, thankfully for me this is just a casual golf trip, but there are a lot of players and I want to do the right thing.

I don't think I'm as strong as 5 given that I haven't played in months.

I'll speak to the organiser, set out the situation and let him decide.

6 or 7 sounds fair enough but if you start playing out of your skin and heading for 38pts you may pull!!! ;)

If you still had an offical GUI handicap and you hadn't played in 6 months, do you think you should play off a higher HC? and more to the point do you think the guys you are going on the trip with would see it the same way.
You should play off 5 imo.

I don't know, that's why I'm going to leave it to them to decide
