Hi, my local garage is quoting me 140e including vat to replace my ignition switch (97 be polo)

It is a main dealer part & will have warranty for one year, is the price normal or am I been ripped off??

    Cheers

Is that for the electrical part of the switch or for the key barrel itself?

I have no idea, they said the ignition switch needs to be replaced, that's it, I checked main dealer for part, coming un at 50e including vat, mechanic told ne 1/5 hours work

You can wire a switch in line with the ignition to start the car (it will only fire the engine when the key is inserted). I wrote a post about it but it should be well within an everyday person to wire it up or at least, a decent indy. It's also valid for the NCT.
