Splicing Thick Rope

Figured this was the best place to ask, apologies if not :)

Basically I've been looking to buy 30m of 2" rope for a while now but didn't realise how expensive it would be. I want the rope for strongman training and events i.e truck pulls etc.

So after getting some pretty hefty prices from the UK, and even Ireland, I found a place in Wexford selling 15m of 2" for a great price. It works out much cheaper to buy 2 lengths of 15m rope from that place then a whole length of 30m.

    Now, my question is:

Where would be the best place to get it spliced? I have absolutely no experience doing it and I'd like it done professionally so I know the person doing it isn't gonna ruin the rope and cost me a few hundred euro.
I had planned to just tie them together but splicing is probably a much better idea.

Anyone know how much weaker the ropes would be after that? Will it still be suitable for the type of training afterwards?

Again, sorry if this is the wrong forum, just figured people here would have a good idea.

    Thanks

Splicing is easy enough and with a bit of practice on a bit of scrap rope you could do it yourself. If you want someone to do it for you your best bet would be to go down to a harbour and ask any fisherman :) the splice will be about 80% the strength of the original rope when done right.
Have you checked out some of the garden centres they sell this type of rope for decking also I'm not sure how much you are been charged but you can buy a tug of war rope here for €100 http://www.tugofwarshop.com/index.php/ropes

I was just watching that video, looks pretty doable. Maybe getting some cheap rope and practicing is all I need.

I could buy that rope but it's too thin.
I'm looking for 48mm at least. It makes it much harder to grip to and works the hands/arms much more.

    Thanks for the reply :)

Haha, maybe a little too hard on the hands :P

Would expect to pay probably around 18+ euro per metre on a rope like that. A phone call won't hurt though!

    Thanks guys

E: Just realised I emailed that crowd a couple of weeks back. 48mm was the thickest they had at the time but were selling it at 12.95 per metre. Works out a lot cheaper to buy 2x 15m lenghts from a different crowd. I'll ring them and inquire enough splicing though
