:confused:My doctor told me last summer, after a range of tests, that I have an overactive thyroid gland. I assumed that I would lose a little bit of extra weight because of this. It didn't happen. This disappointed me greatly!

Has this ever happened to any of you? Over active thyroid....but no weight loss...as expected? Thanks :-)

Not only did I never lose weight I went from a size 10-18 at the age of 16 seriously upsetting! We're in the minority not losing weight: in my case it's because my appetite went completely bananas I couldn't eat enough... It's unusual but not unheard of :)

Really? I thought it was something serious that I was doing wrong. I was checking out dairy & wheat intolerance this morning, I have a feeling that dairy in particular could be my problem. Funny how, the body can crave the very thing I might be intolerant to.

I've cut out dairy and wheat at different times and neither has ever really helped me personally: its a massive commitment. Are your thyroid levels under control now? I know I always give out if I have to have something wrong with me why on earth can't i have the one symptom I wouldn't mind having!! I'm underactive now after RAI treatment and the weight is easier to control for me now but I still need to lose a bit of weight :)

Well, it was only by accident that the doctor found out that it was over active. He wanted me to continue with my appointment to have gallbladder surgery, and said 'we'll take a look at it again after your recovered from surgery' well, after a lot of problems (just to do with the surgery) neither myself, or the doctor ever got around to sorting it out. I personally felt that the gallbladder had nothing to do with the thyroid, but he didn't want to go messing around with medicine before hand, as I had massive inflammation in the whole liver area. So tbh, I don't know if it's up or down. I really must get it sorted. Just to know, would be nice. I think my diet is delaying full recovery from my surgery (which was last October!!!!). I think diet & Thyroid are related though! somehow... :-)
